The Power of a Visit: Volunteering at Batavia
April 15, 2025Here at Batavia Nursing Care Center, we’re incredibly lucky to have someone who lives out these words by Kurek Ashley each and every week—Pam, our dedicated volunteer who brings joy, laughter, and connection to our residents.
Every Wednesday at 2:00 PM, you’ll find Pam helping residents play one of their favorite games—Lucky! She’s also a fan-favorite at Uno card games and our always-popular monthly pizza parties. Her smile lights up the room, and our residents eagerly look forward to her visits—not just for the fun, but for the companionship and warmth she brings.
Pam began volunteering after reading how many nursing home residents receive few visitors. Inspired to make a difference, she chose Batavia because her mother was once a resident here, and she saw firsthand the compassion and care shown by our staff.

Outside of Batavia, Pam works at a local bank, enjoys baking, walking, and traveling with her husband of 38 years, and cherishes time with her two children and granddaughter.
Volunteering isn’t just about giving—it’s about connecting. It’s about listening to stories, sharing smiles, and making someone’s day just a little bit brighter.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, we invite you to follow in Pam’s footsteps. Come get to know our amazing residents and help us continue creating moments of joy and meaning.
Give us a call to learn how you can start volunteering at Batavia. We promise—you’ll get just as much as you give.
