Pet Adoption Day

Batavia Nursing Care Center wanted to celebrate our residents on National Senior Citizens Day in a fun and unique way. Our seniors are an important part of our community and deserve to be celebrated. They are the fabric of life from a generation before technology who always have great stories to tell and pass on from generation to generation.



Thanks to Paula Attinger, our Admissions Assistant, Pet Adoption Day wouldn't have been as special as it was. Paula came up with a twist on Build-a-Bear, where our residents could adopt stuffed animals. Our residents got to roll the Bingo cage and see what number came out. It made them feel like they were in charge of what animal they would get to adopt. They had so much fun laughing and guessing what animal they would get it. When they saw the animal they adopted, their smiles were big and contagious! They loved it so much and said how much they wanted to do it again.



As a long-term care facility, it's important to do activities and games like this to give our residents a sense of purpose, along with allowing them to relive some happy memories of a previous pet or a visit to a zoo. We are looking forward to doing another Pet Adoption Day in the future!
